Muleshoe Classroom Teachers Association gathered items from around 44 Muleshoe businesses and filled goody bags for 35 new teachers and educational assistants and welcomed them to Muleshoe ISD with a breakfast to start the new school year. Muleshoe CTA has welcomed new teachers and assistants with breakfast and a goody bag for the last 35 years or so, and the bags have gotten bigger and bigger, thanks to our generous businesses.
For the breakfast, CTA members brought a boatload of food, like they always do!
Superintendent Scott Bicknell was there to welcome everyone to the new school year.
Greg Hill, Director of Operations and Instruction, also visited with the new teachers.
Everyone enjoyed breakfast, and then President Val McCamish introduced CTA members and shared benefits of being members of TCTA as well as what Muleshoe CTA offers, too.
Goody bags were passed out. I had helped stuff the tote bags the day before. Lots of cool stuff went into them, and I wished I would be getting one!
Muleshoe CTA awards scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to enter the field of education. Seniors from the class of 2026, Jake Villanueva and Jose Sierra, are the latest seniors to benefit from the scholarships.
Local CTA officers who lead the group include, left to right: Angela Reyes, TCTA State Budget Director, local treasurer, and campus representative at Dillman Elementary; Cheyenne Cage, secretary and Deshazo Elementary campus rep; April Smith, vice president and campus rep at MHS; Val McCamish, president, campus rep at MHS; and Keri Frost, Maria Sierra, Christian Mora, all campus reps at Watson Junior High.
TCTA and the Muleshoe chapter are valuable resources for teachers. I hope the new teachers take advantage of their help. Teaching is one of the most important and difficult jobs out there. CTA will help these new recruits have a good year.
Thanks Val McCamish, April Smith, and Angela Reyes for their help with this story. Thanks to all the members who helped stuff the bags and provided all that great breakfast feast, and thanks to all the Muleshoe businesses that graciously contributed to the goody bags.
