Lophophora Koehresii

i bought these Lophophora koehresii in 2019. I like their fleshy green bodies, and they do make nice flowers. I took this picture yesterday

Then today I looked, expecting another flower since I saw a bud yesterday, and I found three!

Lophophora koehresii is related to Lophophora williamsii, which you may know as peyote, but L. koehresii does not contain mescaline which means it doesn’t produce any hallucinogenic effect. like peyote. Peyote, by the way, is really not for sale to the general public; ;it is legal only to  Native Americans who use it in spiritual ceremonies.  L. koehreshii is native to a basin near San Luis Potosi in Mexico where it can become totally covered by water for days and weeks in the rainy season. Perhaps I should water mine more often! Then, during the dry season it pulls itself down into the ground to protect itself from the heat.

Note the pink fruit left by a previous flower. It will have seeds, but they pollination from another plant to be fertile and willing to germinate. the white leftover filaments are from previous flowers that did not make fruit.

I hope for a few more flowers before winter sets in. That will give me something to look forward to.
