Monday, August 4, MISD’s new teachers started off their year with breakfast and a goody bag filled with gifts from twenty-five generous Muleshoe merchants, all gathered and put in the bag by the Muleshoe Classroom Teachers Association.
Several CTA members rolled out of bed early Monday to organize breakfast dishes supplied by CTA members. It was quite a spread, but I just now realized I failed to take a picture after it was all set out and ready to eat! But trust me, they had quite a variety and no one went hungry.
Superintendent Scott Bicknell addressed the group as they enjoyed breakfast.
Val McCamish, local CTA president, welcomed everyone, talked about CTA and the goody bags, and introduced TCTA State President Cristal Isaacks.
State TCTA president Cristal Taylor Isaacks from Levelland came to visit with the new teachers about TCTA and the importance of joining an organization like TCTA that actively supports teachers in a variety of ways
Principals and other school personnel were introduced, and then the new teachers had their turn. Superintendent Bicknell asked each teacher to stand, introduce themselves, where they were from, tell us their new campus, what they would teach there, and then something unusual about them. And that was fun.
It was also fun when CTA members passed out the goody bags and a few items were drawn for. The main one I remember is that the dish garden I brought was won by Esperanza Esquibel.
Cristian Mora and other CTA members passed out the bags to the curious new hires.
Coach Harris, Coach Witten, Coach Musgraves, Coach Herrera were interested in what they would find in the bag.
Muleshoe CTA campus representatives and local officers include, left to right, Maria Sierra, Juana Meza, Allegra Mora, Cheyenne Cage, Angela Reyes, Val McCamish, and Keri Frost.
Muleshoe is well represented locally and at the state level. TCTA State President Cristal Isaacks may live in Levelland now, but she graduated from Muleshoe HIgh School and has served on the TCTA Executive Board in several positions for just about all of her teaching career. April Smith is the local vice-president, Val McCamish is the local president, Cheyenne Cage is the local secretary and a TCTA District 17 state board member, Angela Reyes, is the local treasurer and also a District 17 Director.
Val and Angela were even chosen to grace the cover of the TCTA membership brochure. And Val was chosen as Employee of the Year by the Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture this year.
What a deal!
Here’s to a successful new year for everyone.
Thanks to Val McCamish for her help with this story.
