Muleshoe Art Association took a road trip to Hereford for the October meeting. Seven members and one guest drove to Hereford and had lunch at Parson’s Steakhouse. It was decided to dispense with a formal business meeting and members discussed a variety of topics as they ate.

The spring art show was set for April 12-16 which would not conflict with other area art shows. The show will be held at the Oneita Wagnon Senior Center. Details will be shared closer to the show. Members agreed for the club to pay for two cobblers for the senior center Thanksgiving meal. T-shirts with the art association logo for members was discussed. The December meeting will be the Christmas party, a covered dish meal. Instead of buying gifts this year, members will bring a piece of their original art work to be the gifts chosen in the Chinese Christmas free-for-all. Ann encouraged members to help decorate the senior center for Christmas.

Members then drove to the Purple Cow Art Gallery. The Purple Cow is named for a bovine since Hereford claims to be the cattle capital of the world, and I believe purple is one of the school colors. The gallery is an art gallery, but also a special events center where club meetings, birthday parties, home school outings, ladies night out, whatever, can be scheduled. The gallery has been around for seven years and provides work in all art mediums.

Owners Rebecca Walls and Virgie Long also teach art classes for adults and kids, which is what they did for us. Rebecca led us through steps for painting with watercolor, something I had not ever done, and some of the other members had also not worked with watercolor. She was very patient and helped us learn about when to use more water, less water, and straight color. I seemed to use too much water very time.

Rebecca helped Laurie Stone with details on her painting.

Ann Johnson, who has painted with watercolor before, did a beautiful job with her pumpkin. She included lots of shading and details.

I, on the other hand, was not as successful, but it was definitely a learning experience and fun!

Budding artists who made the trip included, left to right: Ann Johnson, Gail Walker, Laurie Stone, Dianne Brown, Sandra Chancey, Alice Liles, Phil and Annetta Gaasch.

If you would like to schedule an event or have art lessons at the Purple Cow, call Virgie at 806-344-2197, or Rebecca at 806-346-3746.

The next meeting will be November 3 at 2 p.m. at the senior center. Guests are welcome to attend.
