Rumor has it that fifteen, maybe twenty years ago, a time capsule was buried at the Muleshoe Heritage Center. No one got around to marking the spot at the time. Then, as time passed, apparently it was forgotten about and eventually the person or persons who buried it passed on. So, the mystery of where it is remains unsolved.
This year on July 4th, another time capsule was buried at the Heritage Center. I wrote about that, “Muleshoe has a Time Capsule!” and posted that story on July 19. In that story I mentioned that Ellis Funeral Home was going to supply a marker for the capsule.
Well, it’s now official.
The marker was installed August 24 in timely fashion before this capsule became history and forgotten about. So now, those of you who will be around in 2076 to dig it up and see what life was like back in 2026 will know exactly where to find it, there in the middle at the base of the double mule shoes. By then maybe the grass will have grown back where the dirt was disturbed to bury the capsule. Well, actually two capsules. It took two five-gallon buckets to hold all the memorabilia collected for the capsule. All that stuff will be a hands-on history lesson for those who show up when it is unearthed. I hope you will all be there.
Thanks to Rebecca Beall for the heads-up that the marker had been installed, and thanks to Ellis Funeral Home for providing the marker.
